Service Learning
As an elected member of the Student Government Association (SGA) at Gulf Coast State College, I was responsible for managing the Community Service Committee. In my role as Treasurer for the SGA and President of the Community Service Committee, I collaborated with the chair of Commodore Cares to increase the college footprint in the community. We worked on several projects such as serving breakfast at a local food bank, working beach clean ups, and providing Christmas parties to local schools in socioeconomic deprived areas in the community. As President of the Community Service Committee at the College, I also coordinated a fall purse drop off wherein we requested new or slightly used purses with personal hygiene items included. We collected fifty purse donations and provided those to the Salvation Army's battered women's shelter. As a nursing student, I worked the Professors Miller to provide free health check-ups at a college basketball game wherein we checked blood pressures and blood sugars of the attendees who requested it.
